    Where it all began

    A chance meeting on a golf course led to a young Richard Stanton commencing a cadetship with H A Firmstone & Sons, an agency practice in Gardeners Road Mascot, igniting a passion for the property industry.

    Relocated to Newcastle, New South Wales

    Richard relocated to Newcastle to commence his sales career with Richard Walkom Real Estate.

    Major purchase takes place

    Purchased Brian Reardon Real Estate on the Pacific Highway, Charlestown. This centrally located position would become the base for Richard’s property career to this day.

    First Land Subdivision

    A small infill land development, Orange Grove Estate in Cardiff was the catalyst for Richard’s developing interest for property development and off the plan sales.

  • 1988
    Reward during recession

    Richard became one of the partners of a rebranded Creer & Berkeley Real Estate (now Creer Property), one of the Hunter Regions most prominent real estate agencies. He enjoyed 30 rewarding years with Creer Property, working at the forefront of Newcastle’s property industry In the same year, one of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie’s largest land subdivisions, Lakelands Estate was released and was quickly snapped up by enthusiastic buyers.

    Disaster strikes

    Newcastle was struck down by an earthquake in December 1989, costing the lives of thirteen locals, and causing widespread damage to the city’s urban landscape. The 5.6 magnitude quake destroyed 35,000 homes and garnered a $4 billion damage bill. Charlestown escaped the carnage, however Newcastle wasn’t as lucky, with Hamilton being at the epicentre of the quake.

    Residential Specialisation

    Richard took control of all of Creer & Berkeley’s Residential Sales business and focused it at the Charlestown location leaving the other directors to focus on the commercial, industrial and valuation practice.

    Targets acquired

    Richard and his team achieved a massive pre-sale target of 80 apartments to secure project financing for the Alto Apartments – equivalent to 80% of the total apartments on offer. This was quite an achievement as the Charlestown market had not been exposed to apartment sales of this scale previously.

    Overcame challenges

    The success of the Alto development was closely followed by the Landmark Apartments, a 54 apartment development with 1.5 levels of commercial space in Charlestown. Richard’s team overcame the challenges of buyer cynicism to off the plan sales and concerns about another large-scale development in the area to achieve success.

    Forming foundations

    Kellie Quinn joined Richard at Creer Property commencing a long term partnership and the discovery of a shared commitment to providing the highest level of personal service to Kapalua’s clients and customers.

    Retirement Sector Partnership

    A unique partnership was formed with the Oak Tree Group, one of Australia’s largest privately held Retirement Village Operators. Oak Tree have 37 villages spread along the eastern seaboard from Cairns to Hobart. Kapalua provide logistical support to the Group via proprietary software developed in house, sales support and village sales.

    Kapalua Launched

    Richard identified a shortfall in the complex and detailed requirements of off the plan marketing and sales of multi unit developments. Kapalua was created solely to meet this need.

    Team Growth

    The Kapalua team expands with Wendy Aletras joining in mid-2015. Wendy uses her background in marketing, sales and compliance to support brand development and the production of marketing to showcase each project.

    Kapalua Appointed by the McCloy Group

    Kapalua is appointed by the McCloy Group to manage the sales at Billy’s Lookout, Teralba, a land subdivision totalling nearly 500 lots that will be developed over a 5+ year period. McCloy Group is the region’s premier land developer.

    Continued success and a raised profile for Kapalua means more growth with Victoria Braxton-Meadows joining the team.
